In order to reduce dependence on warehouses located in Spain, and also to respond to the growth of online sales, IKEA will invest 50 million euros to build new warehouses in Portugal.
«At the moment, our country works with a logistics center that is still in Spain and we consider that it is very far from what our market is. We want to be more efficient, we have greatly increased online share, and the closer we are to customers, the better the shopping experience», says Ricardo Pereira, CFO and deputy director of Ikea Portugal, quoted by Idealista/news.
The investment of 50 million euros includes a large warehouse that is being built in Loures, as well as small investments in the logistics section of stores such as the one located in Alfragide. «The logistical transformation of Ikea's business, crucial for this growth, involves renovations and expansions in the buildings in Alfragide and Loures, with the creation and improvement of support areas for logistical processes and e-commerce, but also the opening of new physical contact points, with the opening of new planning studios», in a statement.
It should also be noted that, starting next spring, the multinational company of Swedish origin will have a new planning studio on Avenida da República, its first store in the center of Lisbon.
