Oct 28, 2022

At issue is the acquisition of an urbanable land with an area of 414,000 m2 – and a rentable area of 147,000 m2 – in Lisbon.

It is yet another transaction that proves that the logistics sector in Portugal continues to attract the interest of investors, particularly foreigners. At issue is the acquisition of an urban land with an area of 414,000 m2 – and a rentable area of 147,000 m2 – on the outskirts of Lisbon by the Spanish Bankinter Investment and the Valfondo fund, managers of Montepino's logistics portfolio. The value of the deal is not revealed, but the company says it is the biggest logistics operation of the decade in Portugal.

Montepino, one of the largest owners of logistics properties in Spain, adds in a statement that this is its first international investment and that the works on the land in question, located next to the A1, in the Castanheira do Ribatejo area, close to the Lisbon logistics platform, should start later this year.

Negotiations "ongoing with potential tenants"

“Negotiations are ongoing with potential tenants who are very interested in this project”, says the company, noting that the land will be part of Montepino's logistics portfolio.

Cited in the note, Juan José Vera, director of Montepino and general director of Valfondo, says that this business “represents the materialization of the internationalization strategy launched at the beginning of the year” by the company, to diversify its operations “both in locations and in customers potentials”.

Ben Alogo, director of international expansion at Valfondo, points out that this acquisition allows “to enter Portugal in a solid way”. “We have long-term implementation plans in Portugal with a successful model tested in Spain”, he concludes.
